| As winter storms continue to bring snow and icy conditions to our area, the Selden Fire Department is asking residents and business owners for help with an important safety reminder: Please clear snow away from fire hydrants near your home or property. Fire hydrants are a critical part of our emergency response system. During a fire, crews must be able to locate and access hydrants immediately in order to establish a reliable water supply. When hydrants are buried or blocked by snowbanks, valuable time is lost, and seconds truly matter in an emergency. What You Can Do When shoveling your driveway or sidewalks, please take a moment to: -Clear at least 3 feet of space around the hydrant Even a few minutes of effort can make a major difference for firefighters responding during extreme winter conditions. A Community Effort House fires and emergencies are more common during the winter months, and keeping hydrants accessible helps ensure the fastest possible response for everyone in our community. We also encourage neighbors to assist elderly or disabled residents who may be unable to shovel. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us keep Selden safe this winter.
