| I joined the department on July 2, 2007 as an EMT because I wanted to help my community and be part of a busy EMS system where I could gain experience and make a difference. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow through the ranks, serving as Lieutenant and Captain before becoming EMS Chief in June 2023. I’m incredibly grateful to have reached this point and for all the opportunities the department has given me. One of my favorite parts of Selden FD is the sense of family. We may be a little dysfunctional at times, but when one of our members is in need, everyone comes together without hesitation. A memory that always stands out to me is during the COVID pandemic when we drove through the community on Easter, bringing some light to people during a very difficult time. I also love the Santa tours each year for the same reason, seeing the joy it brings to others. Throughout my time here, I’ve worked hard to grow as a leader and build confidence, especially in high pressure situations. One of my most challenging experiences was running EMS command during a mass casualty training, which pushed me to think and lead in a new way. Selden FD has opened so many doors for me. I started as an EMT, became an EMT-CC, then a paramedic through the Suffolk SERVES grant and department support. That led me to further my education, becoming a registered nurse and now a nurse practitioner. What motivates me most is my passion for patient care. We are often the first people someone sees during an emergency, and being able to help in that moment is incredibly meaningful. Outside of the department, I work as a Nurse Practitioner at Stony Brook Hospital. When I’m not working or responding to calls, I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Being a member of the Selden Fire Department has become part of who I am. It has given me lifelong friendships, incredible opportunities, and a true sense of purpose. |
