On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the officers and members of the Selden Fire Department continued a tradition that has spanned nearly 60 years by participating in the Port Jefferson Fourth of July parade.

The Selden Fire Department joined the event in high spirits, interacting with the large crowds gathered along the parade route from uptown Port Jefferson to downtown. This year's attendance was among the highest seen in recent memory, as families came together to watch the parade on a beautiful Saturday morning.

As part of their tradition, the Selden Fire Department featured Uncle Sam walking alongside their group and introduced a new addition this year, "Sparky the Fire Dog." Both characters entertained parade-goers, stopped for photos, and handed out American flags and lollipops while supplies lasted.

The department has shared photos from the parade route, offering a participant's perspective, as well as images of fire department members and families interacting with Sparky. The Selden Fire Department recognizes and honors all those who have served before us and those currently serving in the military, whose dedication makes it possible to celebrate days like this in our country. Happy Birthday America's 250th
