Halloween is a fun night for families throughout our community, and the members of the Selden Fire Department want to remind everyone to make safety part of this year's celebration.
With trick-or-treaters out across our neighborhoods, we ask both families and motorists to use extra caution. A few simple precautions can help make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the night.
For Trick-or-Treaters and Families: - Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or other light. - Young children should always trick-or-treat with a responsible adult. - Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible, and look both ways before crossing the street. - Visit well-lit homes and remain in familiar neighborhoods. - Make sure costumes fit properly and do not obstruct vision or create a tripping hazard. - Choose flame-resistant costumes and keep clothing away from candles and other open flames. - Have an adult inspect all treats before they are eaten.
For Drivers: Please slow down and stay alert, especially on residential streets. Children may be excited, distracted, or difficult to see after dark. Put the phone away, take your time, and expect increased pedestrian traffic throughout the evening.
We also remind residents using candles, jack-o'-lanterns, or other Halloween decorations to keep them away from combustible materials. Battery-operated candles and lights are a safer alternative to open flames.
From all of us at the Selden Fire Department, have a safe, fun, and Happy Halloween! 🎃🚒
