As you turn your clocks back one hour this Sunday, November 1, the Selden Fire Department reminds you to take a few minutes to check the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home.
✅ Replace batteries in alarms that use replaceable batteries. ✅ Test all alarms monthly, including those with sealed 10-year batteries. ✅ Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old. ✅ Install smoke alarms inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.
Alarms with sealed batteries do not require battery changes. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for testing and replacement.
This is also a great opportunity to review your family’s home escape plan and make sure everyone knows two ways out and where to meet safely outside.
Working smoke alarms save lives. Change your clocks, check your alarms, and help keep your family safe!
