Selden FD Facilitates Technical Rescue
By Selden FD
July 8, 2013
At 1:45pm on July 8, a call came in for a bleeding male at 11 Cedar Street in Selden. EMS was dispatched and upon arrival, the responding Chief on scene witnessed a teenage boy standing on a ladder with his hand pinned at the wrist between a large box truck and a telephone pole. The boy was roughly six feet above the ground. A Rescue Truck and Ladder Truck were dispatched to the incident, where members of the Selden Fire Department used a mini-Hurst Tool (Jaws of Life) to free the young man.
Once free, he was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. In total, more than a dozen members of the Selden Fire Department responded to this incident, which was closed within a half hour.
